I began my career in hairdressing in 2004 and spent 8 years working with the award-winning hair salon, The Parlour, in Boulder, Colorado. During my time at the Parlour, I was an educator, teaching assistant stylists advanced color techniques, as well as Artistic Director in charge of all fashion and editorial work. I spent 2 years as the lead hair and makeup artist for the Boulder Women's Magazine. In an article they featured me in, I was hailed as a "master of her trade". The Westword also featured me in an article in 2015 saying, "Joy exemplifies the fusion of fashion and art into one creative lifestyle." In 2013, I left The Parlour to pursue freelance work in Colorado and California as a performance artist and stylist. I returned to The Parlour in 2016 as a stylist in the Lower Downtown Denver location and joined the UNITE Eurotherapy Education Team. The Parlour had a major focus on education and I was lucky enough to be trained by world-famous stylists like Nick Arrojo from "What Not to Wear". In July 2017 I took the stage at NAHA, the Academy Awards of hair, with the Beauty Underground team producing the collection "Alchemy" led by industry legends Charlie Price, Ruth Roche, and Jill Leitz. "Chelsa Joy is a true artist - she has a wonderful sense of touch and lightness in her texture work. The Beauty Underground was honored to have her as a part of our team at the North American Hairstyling Awards" - Charlie Price. Upon my return, I released my first collection "Citizen" featuring bold colors and edgy cuts and as the Editorial Educator of the Parlour. I was featured in several more fashion magazines such as Kultur Magazine and worked multiple seasons of Denver Fashion Week and The Red Ball Aids benefit. Now, in 2022, I am embarking on the most exciting venture of my career, bringing my talent and style to the beautiful mountain town of Trinidad, Colorado with "Studio Joy".
